Marfy 1941 - the drapey skirt

This is the second skirt for the Pattern Review mini wardrobe contest. Again, the review will be up shortly.

This skirt is made from wool and lycra and it is navy though it looks almost black in some lights. I think I would make this again, but those pleats do need a bit of fussing with to get them right and I think it needs to be made in a fabric that has a slightly heavier drape than this fabric has. The muslin version had quite a weighty drape, whereas this fabric is very thin and a little crisp. The muslin version did drape better on the hips. I've included a close up of the draped section, but the colour is not very true. I had to lighten the picture quite a bit to get the detail to show.

I have also included a detail shot of the lining, just because I thought it was cute lining. I tried to get a photo of the button I used to close the waistband but I couldn't get one to come out. The button came from a pair of Escada jeans and is gold with a navy enamelled centre piece on which a gold panther head (or other kind of large wild cat) appears. The cat head is sculpted/raised and the button really is lovely and makes the skirt look rather expensive in my view.
