Blouses and Progress

Not content with making one blouse from Marfy 1940, I made three, with a fourth one being planned as part of the Stitchers Guild June Capsule Contest. As usual, I changed some things. Also as usual, the first change wasn’t wholly planned… I forgot to measure the sleeve length, and it was too short… a fact I discovered after I’d trimmed all the seams down on the armhole and cuff. A save was required, so the first shirt now has elbow length sleeves gathered onto a cuff. Which I actually think came out rather well.

Shirt two is as Marfy intended, made in navy Tencel with a black pattern. This is my first item in the Mini Wardrobe on Pattern Review.

Shirt three, the bright blue silk one, has a narrower sleeve, borrowed from a McCalls pattern, with the ease altered to fit the armhole better. This change was partly driven by a shortage of fabric, the silk I used was very narrow, and partly because the shirt as drafted needs a very drapey fabric for the sleeves to work. I wanted to be able to make this pattern up in shirting cotton or linen as well (can you tell I really love the pattern?) and this seemed an ideal opportunity to test the sleeve. The silk blouse is the second item in the Mini Wardrobe.
The review will hopefully go up tomorrow, in the meantime, here are pictures of the three shirts.

Progress report on Wardrobe in a Week/Mini Wardrobe. The drapey skirt is completely cut out and prepared. I've even found some possible buttons for the waistband closure. All the pieces are now in a shoe box to keep them together.

The lining/muslin of Marfy 1931 is cut and tacked together ready for fitting tomorrow. I did try it on really quickly and it looks to need a couple of inches out of the waist, but that is quite normal for me, and the rest is looking fine. It’s difficult to tell with seams on the outside and unpressed, but I am quietly hopeful that this is going to be a very useful pattern for me. It certainly seems to be impressively flippy at the hem.

Oh how gorgeous are those blouses. They have come out beautifully. And I love the save with the elbow length sleeves! I can't believe you have managed to make 3 Marfy blouses in such a short time. WOW!

The blouses are gorgeous and I love the way you solved the fabric shortage problem by making elbow length sleeves. Very cool.
