Autumn colours

On Saturday, to cheer myself up after my overlocker driving frustrations, I visited a local independent department store for a bit of a snoop shop. I was pleased to see that purple, which I love, appears to be a key colour for this season and even more pleased to note that I have a length of poly/wool jersey in almost the exact shade of cyclamen that was featured in one of the collections.
At the Pattern Review UK weekend last year, RuthieK brought her Colour Me Beautiful books to show me and we worked out my colours. I was surprised to find that I could wear some shades of teal and was keen to try this out so I was pleased to see quite a bit of teal in the store. There were even some gorgeous patent and suede handbags in a very dark teal, bordering on a peacock green which were really lovely though sadly out of my price range. I had recently found some yarn I loved in a blue-y teal shade and when I put the swatch against various items in my wardrobe, I found it was a colour that worked well with many of my trousers and skirts, including a brown suede skirt which I love, but hardly ever wear because I only own one top that goes well with it. I was so impressed with the way this teal swatch pulled my wardrobe together, that I have become positively obsessed with teal and more specifically the idea of making a teal jacket. So all I need to do now is find just the right fabric. and make it up before teal becomes last year's colour.

I also have several purple items in my stash, including a divine piece of stretch glen plaid which Ruthie gave to me in February which is most certainly going to become a the Marfy skirt with the pleated side insets.

I didn't see any brown items in the store though, which is a pity because I had actually bought an entire capsule of brown/tan/cream fabrics last year intending to make a wardrobe collection for this winter with them. I am sure it will be suitable for some future season though. It was all fairly classic fabrics.

Inspired by the garment colours I had seen, I came home and sorted out my stash cupboard so that the fabrics I would be most likely to want for the new season were at the top, and the brown pieces were toward the bottom. I also made a list of fabrics I needed/wanted as I am going to Abhakan on Saturday. Since I will be meeting Ruthie there, I think maybe there should be a warning issued because the two of us in a fabric store are dangerous. We encourage each other. Hmm, note to self: ensure tyres are checked and at correct pressure to withstand weight in boot (trunk for those in the US I think).

Teal and Purple oh goody! I am going to try to not go too mad in Abakhan (famous last words).
If you made a teal jacket and a purple jacket this winter you would be able to wear them with lots of the navy and black stuff you already have.
