Yay, at last the Marfy free patterns are up on the site. Hope its OK to put them up on here so I can comment on which I am going to make. I don't know why they came up so small, but hopefully you can see the general gorgeousness in enough detail to see why I am getting all excitable about these.
There are ten patterns in total, from which I have three "must makes"
The skirt 2253 (shown in both blue and cream). I have three possible fabrics in mind for this and I WILL make this, very soon after the catalogue arrives.
The dress shown in grey with pink/purple trim (2255) - I absolutely adore the details on this. I would want to make it in colours to go with one of my silk scarves since I love the way it is styled with the scarf, like a old style movie star. However, I don't wear sleeveless items alone all that often, I get too cold. I do really love the detailing on the pattern and am determined to make this work for me. I came up with two ideas:
1. Make it up with slightly more ease, drop the neckline a little, and wear it as an overdress with a long sleeve polo neck underneath it.
2. Make it up as is, but add jersey sleeves to it so that it looks like I am wearing a long sleeve top under it. This also allows me to wear the scarf knotted at the neck as per the drawing.
Would either plan work do you think?
The blouse 2254 with the draped collar. This one hasn't told me what it wants to be made in yet. But I do have some brown silk charmeuse, and one of the auditioning fabrics for the skirt is brown and green tweed.
There are three "will probably make"
The waistcoat shown in black. I love the way the buttons run so high up and its so fitted. I don't own a waistcoat so it would be a test run to see how one worked in my wardrobe. I would make it in black, but use all different coloured buttons.
The blue jacket. This isn't a style I've tried before but I've had my eye on a more complicated jacket with a similar silhouette and collar from the 2009 catalogue. This will provide a good way to see if the style works for me before I commit to the more complicated pattern. I might have to purchase fabric for this jacket. Which will, as always, be a terrible hardship.
The dress with the empire waist and floaty skirt. This is not the most practical pattern for the climate I live in. I do love it though and if we had a hot summer I would make it. I see it with a red bodice and a skirt in a semi sheer, either black with red print or white with quite big red polka dots.
The rest, I don't think I will make. The cape is lovely, but completely impractical for my lifestyle. The blue dress is so close in style to one I already traced from the free patterns of a previous catalogue that I really won't bother to trace this one unless it turns out to have some amazing detail that I haven't noticed in the drawing.
I won't make the purple jacket that ties at the waist as I think its a little too mature for my taste and the super long white blouse isn't really my style either and apart from the length, doesn't look to be too different to other shirt patterns I already have.

clicking on the pic made it bigger, so no prob to see.
Who knew a shift dress was una tubina in Italian! That is most certainly NOT what is usually meant by a tube dress!? (think spandex, ugh, maybe not, nobody should think spandex)
All very smart. I like the waistcoat - with coloured button holes too? The jacket looks eminently doable for one of your (ahem) skills.
With that many patterns free, you won't be wanting to buy any, will you? Will you!? Well at least you do actually sew them up!
Dress and jacket - not allowed, too matchy, too aged? Just thinking since you need to buy jacket fabric anyway... a tailored dress in the same fabric might be nice and you could pick up the colour details from the dress for the lining?
Is it completely bonkers to suggest removable sleeves? So they could be in different weights of fabric, black jersey, for lower temps and maybe something sheer for a dressier look? I'm probably barking, ignore me.
Have (more) fun!
Cheers,
AJ
Gorgeou and very you! I like the shirt and the fitted waistcoat for me.
Great choices and I look forward to seeing them made up.
Great choices Jenni!
I must say, I'm impressed with these free patterns. I may need to make one or two myself!
