A few weeks ago, a friend offered to bring me some yarn back from the US for my birthday present. When we met up on Sunday she brought it around for me. She got me the sock yarn that is pictured, which is Knitpicks Imagination hand painted in Damsel colourway and some red baby alpaca sport weight, enough for a sweater. Both are as soft as a puppy's belly fur and soooo pretty. And I was allowed to add them to my stash now, even though its not even my birthday for ages. I also aquired a very large piece of extra wide quilt backing recently. There was eight yards in total though I only have five yards of my own, as three yards is promised to mum for her Project Linus quilts. But I kept it in one piece for the prewash and iron. It took two hours to iron it.
I planned to iron it on Sunday evening whilst watching Project Runway series five, which began on Sky Three last week. BUT, when I settled down, the episode was the first one from series four and not the second one of series five that I had been expecting to see. I don't get excited about much on telly, but I like my Project Runway and although a re-run is lovely, the new series would have been better.
I am afraid that despite the burgeoning size of my yarn stash, and the diminishing size of my bank balance, I added to my stash again on Saturday at new Leeds yarn shop, Baa Ram Ewe. Mum and I visited on Saturday for a nosy and the store is divine. Well laid out, light and airy and the stock is wonderful. Mum said "I shan't be buying any yarn, I am just going to order your birthday present" just before we got out of the car. She came home with yarn for both a sweater and a lace scarf, two patterns, and some non-slip, paw shaped thingies that can be put on hand knit socks or slippers to make them safe to walk around in without slipping over. I got more sock wool (two balls of Regia in a lavender, blue, brown and cream colourway... well, I have to test all the various makes to see which one I like best). There was a basket of hand dyed yarn that was just stunningly gorgeous, and I am still trying to work out what I could make with some of it. I spent ages petting it in the shop but it didn't tell me what it wanted to be, so I left without it.
