Waistcoat is finished

The waistcoat didn't take too long to make, though I did need to tweak the fit quite a bit before I could finally sew it up, which is the only part that took time. Otherwise, this was a straighforward project. I think I tweaked it a little too much and the waistcoat is a touch tight. I am also not sure I like the armhole cuts out being quite so large.. The shoulder straps seem a little narrow for my taste and it made for a bit of a struggle when pulling the fronts through the shoulders. Next time I will sew the lining and outer together using a quarter inch seam allowance which will give a touch more width in all areas, and make the waistcoat a bit less snug too.
I am quite pleased with the buttons. I couldn't find a set of multicoloured buttons that I liked so instead I copied an idea I had seen in several RTW lines, including Ralph Lauren, and put on coordinating but differing buttons.

Overall, I am pleased with this. Whether I make another one will depend on how practical this turns out to be in terms of working as an extra layer for warmth. As its got super cold here today, and my fingers are going numb with cold whilst typing, I am not feeling confident of its warmth. But on a warm spring day it will hopefully work.

The photo of the waistcoat on me shows it with the matching trousers. I put on a polo neck for the photos but I think it might look less severe and masculine when worn with the matched trousers if teamed with a blouse, perhaps one with a frill or a girly print. The waistcoat also looks mighty cute worn open with casual top underneath and black jeans.
I've just added a photo of the pattern drawing, having only just recalled that I had one stored on the computer.

And finally, on a different subject entirely... I took my mum out for lunch yesterday at Marks and Spencers and we had a look around the housewares and furniture before she uttered the fatal words... "Do you want to look at the shoes?" Erm, you have to ask? I did only intend to look, honestly Officer, but somehow a pair of very, very cute shoes forced me to adopt them. Anyone who knows me in real life will be shocked at these shoes... they are not only practical but they are flat. It is almost unheard of for me to purchase a flat shoe that is neither walking boot nor wellington. I've never actually owned this particular style of shoe before, despite the fact that they are everywhere and seem to be a very popular style. Now I will just have to make a teal dress won't I?

That's not a shoe, that's a flipflop! aka, thing to make your feet hurt. Well on my feet it would! I have weird feet. Nice colour though. Just the thing to be buying on a dank cold bank holiday weekend innit!

Lovin the waistcoat. Nice!! I don't think you need to worry about it looking too mannish with the poloneck. Looks smart. You can always add some fancy with a scarf or some jewellery. The fact that the trousers and waistcoat are so fitted is feminine enough. But I'm not exactly a style icon, so maybe you should just ignore me.

(btw, no yarn yet, pistachio arrived but still in the box due to losing a couple of days somewhere)

What's next???

Cheers,
AJ

Love your waistcoat and may have to try this one myself. It looks great with the matching trousers and can imagine how good it looks with your jeans.

Those wonderful shoes can also be called a thong Down Under, however I love the colour and can't wait to see the dress to go with them.

Yep, a thong, but a pretty cute one. I have recently bought two pairs of shoes in that colour - heels and flats. And yes, you need to make something to match :))
Oh, and that waistcoat is really nice - very professional.

Isn't it great how finding a wonderful accessory or shoe leads to more sewing!

Love the waistcoat and love the shoes! I might be slightly biased because of the colour though.
