Tidy cupboards

I am very pleased with myself. I've spent a whole day taking all the fabrics out of the cupboard and putting them back neatly. The stash cupboard was beginning to look a bit sick and overstuffed, and was threatening to vomit fabric whenever I opened the door. I must admit, I'd rather sort out the fabric cupboard than do the dusting, or defrost the freezer... both options that I suppose I should have taken up instead of playing "pet the stash" all day.

And here is a photo of part of the cupboard with its tidy contents. The cupboard extends for 1.5 metres along the wall and from floor to ceiling... so I couldn't fit it all into the picture. Its not completely full of fabric, lest anyone out there be gasping at the sheer size of the stash (its pretty big, but not so big that it fills the cupboard... yet! The plastic folders you see in the right hand side contain most of my patterns, and the two shelves below, hold notions, lace, buttons, trims, quilting fabric, zippers and all the other stuff that one collects. .... I didn't tidy that part yet.
Top right shelf holds thick knits plus a couple of fabrics that haven't said what they want to be yet. I have to stand on a chair to get to the top shelf, so items that won't need to be accessed often go up there. The huge lump of black to the right is my new winter coat, or it will be, with the Icewool interlining and satin lining with it. The rest is also coating, plus some old blankets for use as muslins for the coats.
Next shelf down, the narrow shelf holds dress and blouse weights, and sheers, including silks. The wide right hand shelf holds fleece and sweatshirting on one side and jacket/bottomweight fabrics on the other side.
Shelf three and four on the left side holds knits. Shelf three of the wide shelves holds jacket weights on the left and a mix of different bottomweights to the right.
Shelf five on the left holds denim, twill and corduroy.
Shelf six wouldn't fit on the photo but I have all the linings stored down there as they don't have so far to slither onto the floor when they all make a concerted bid for freedom when I open the door or try to access a particular piece of lining.
Looking at the photo now, I must point out to one of my readers (you know who you are!) that the right hand side of the cupboard doesn't hold all black items. Some of the things that look black are actually dark grey or navy. :)

It doesn't seem to take long before a fabric cupboard becomes messy again. I always mean to put everything back nicely, but it doesn't seem to happen that way very often. I will be interested to see how long I can keep it looking this way.

Nice! Fabric/freezer? No contest. Unless you find pudding in the freezer.

Super organised, so more time now for super sewing!

Cheers,
AJ

Oh very organised! I see you have gone for artfully folded rather than the 'stuffed to the gunnels' approach I have taken.

I too would rather sort fabric than dust. Dust and unidentifiable ice-frosted foods aren't as nice to look at and dream about.
