New Look 6175

This is my "go to" pattern for baby clothes to give as gifts. The pattern is really simple and easy to make and the finished articles are usually very well received. The pattern includes a jacket, trousers, all in one romper/trouser thing, and a dress. I've mainly used the dress pattern but the expectant mum I am making clothes for this time has chosen not to be told the baby's gender at the scan, so I could hardly make dresses for the wee one, just in case it turns out to be a boy. I figured a romper/all in one type thing, or trousers would work best in such circumstances. As the lady in question is a work colleague whose taste I do not know well, I will just have to hope the fabric I chose is to her taste. There wasn't a wide range of options at the fabric shop and I wasn't able to get lemon coloured embroidered gingham, which would have been my first choice. This is a first size all in one. I changed the pattern so it opened down the front with a zipper rather than buttoning down the back to just below the waist. I thought if I was a first time mum, dressing a wriggly baby who can't hold up their head themselves, I would NOT want to turn the baby over to button it into the suit. I've bound the bottom of the zipper with self fabric, and made sure the zip ends well into the nappy area so nothing can scratch baby's skin. I can't decide if its a bit big for a first size, though I suppose better too large so it can grow into it, than too small.

I have a coat and trousers set cut out in grey fleece and have started on the coat.

The silk linen trousers are almost finished. I still have the hems to sew up and the hook and bar to attach at the waistband, then they will be ready to photograph.

I just read the comments on my previous post and found I had won a prize in the SWAP on Stitchers Guild. I was stunned to find I got third prize. Thank you to those who voted for my entry. I was thrilled that people thought my work worthy of their vote.
