Pink Giraffe

My house is now home to a completed pink Giraffe. And here is the giraffe in question, which eats nothing and requires no space beyond that allotted to it in the sweater storage cube.
Its a bit pinker than the photo really shows and I did knit it a bit longer than designed but you knit the thing in rib, and its really tiny, then iron the ribs flat. Not being particularly experienced in ironing/blocking knitwear, I ended up with an item that was somewhat longer than even I had intended it to be but as I want to wear it over leggings and a knit top in winter, that suited my purposes admirably.
The collar took me two days to knit on my new super flashy wonder circular needles but I wasn't knitting on it all day of course.
I seem to have come to a halt on the sewing. I set out on 01 September to cut out and begin my lovely new Marfy jacket, having decided that it mattered not what others thought, as some of you suggested, but only what I thought and felt good in. I cut two pieces out (after doing that circling the table with the scissors in hand thing for about twenty minutes, and having spent about an hour deciding on the exact placement of those two pieces to ensure a match). Before cutting the next pair of pieces out I thought I would pin these two together to admire my work. ARRGHHHHHHH!!! didn't match. It would appear that two things have occurred. Firstly, the vertical pattern is exactly on grain, but the horizontal pattern is not. This led to a non match across the back seam which looked absolutely horrible. Secondly, the princess seamed pattern did not seem to lend itself to this particular fabric pattern somehow. It looked perfect for it when on the bolt, but the exaggerated curves and small pieces just did not work with the fabric. So after a scrabble around my stash yielded no alternative fabric, I shot off to the local quality fabric store muttering darkly about large overfilled stash cupboards that don't have the right fabric in them. The shop was closed. Today, I attended a quilt show at which a well known purveyor of extremely high quality fabrics was present... and I found nothing that wanted to be this jacket. Went to local quality fabric shop on the way home and found lots of gorgeous fabrics but not a single one that wanted to be made into this jacket. So my plans to enter the lined jacket contest on Pattern Review are scuppered really. But I am sure the right fabric will turn up in due course. Perhaps in the shipment of fabric due into local store in the next week or two... such a hardship, having to visit the shop again so soon. :)

Pink giraffe indeed - I'm sure it will be very cosy.

Nooooo, that's such a shame about your jacket fabric. Pattern matching is one of THE most testing things in sewing. I'm sure the pattern cutters at the couture houses hold their breaths when the designer sweeps in with the latest sketches and fabric swatches! I hope your jacket fabric turns up soon.

Oh you are so good in checking as you go with your fabric, I tend to do this after I have finished cutting out.

The fabric will come along and how wonderful to be visiting the fabrics stores so soon.
