Fate

Everything just fell into place on Saturday at the fabric shop and thus behold the wondrous fabrics I found there. This divine piece of gorgeousness is a wool and poly mixture (I think the poly part is the decorative threads in the weave) which will become the much talked about Marfy jacket. The buttons and lining are shown in one shot but I included a shot of the tweed on its own because it is a more accurate representation of the colour of the fabric. And the other photo? Well, as I wandered over to buy my thread for the jacket, this leapt out at me and it looks stunning with the tweed, so home it came. It's a semi-sheer polyester.

So, I am good to go on the jacket in a week or two, once I get some smaller projects done.

BUT even better still… as I chatted to the shop owner at the cutting table, she told me that she had a tailoring course starting up this week, and another one would begin after Christmas. I have spoken with my workplace and my boss has very, very kindly said that I can take the time off to do the course, which is six classes, one every other week. I only have to do short lunches to make up the time at work. So I am hoping to do the course that starts in January, if there is a place for me. I am super excited about this course, which I think will be invaluable. So far all that I know about tailoring has been gained from books and two Terry Fox Tailoring DVDs. The DVD’s and books are excellent, and indeed I would highly recommend the DVD's in particular as I have found them invaluable. But you can’t ask them what exactly you have done wrong, or why something didn’t work out quite right, nor can you ask them to show you again with a differently phrased explanation because you didn't really understand the first time.

How wonderful a tailoring course, you will have a lot of ah haa moments as you work through the weeks.

Love the tweed and the semi sheer polyester and can't wait to see your Marfy jacket come to life.

What gorgeous fabrics! And the course sounds like great fun, I am excited to see what the jacket will be like.
