The Bat Block

I did this one over freezer papers and sewn by hand as its curved pieces.  I've not made a block with curved pieces before but this one wasn't too difficult to do, and the pieces were larger than the Inner City block so quicker to do.   Though much more fiddly due to having to ease the curved seam.

I think the constituent blocks of this one, which consists of two pieces joined to make a square, then set with others to make the pattern, can be set in several different ways to make different patterns.   The traditional name is Drunkards Path and would be set with the semi circles running in a line across the block, diagonally usually I think.  My mum, who knows more about these things than me, says the layout I've used is sometimes called Doves... though being black, I guess mine are more like crows, or bats.  Not something I considered when I was constructing this one, but now that the bat analogy has occurred to me, I can't see it as anything other than the Bat Block.

I am quite pleased with the way the pink print has mitred to form a vee shape.  Again, not planned as such when cutting but I like the way it gives movement to the block.

That looks amazing. Those curved seams look fabulous. That looks trick to even stitch by hand.
What a cool design!
