Jalie 2908 Jeans Pair Two

Well, I did want to make sure the first pair weren't some kind of a fluke so as soon as the first pair were done, I set off to make a second pair. These are made from black stretch twill which I think came from Emma One Sock, but again, I am not entirely sure. The stretch was only just enough to meet the requirements of the stretch gauge and this pattern is definitely drafted for stretch fabrics. I was concerned I would need to let these out a little due to the lack of stretch but on the other hand, fabric with this smaller amount of stretch is easier to get hold of in the UK, so I needed to make sure I could make these from fabric I could get over here.

I consider these a huge success, mainly because:

1. I've worn them for three days and they've been comfortable the whole time; in that time I've driven, walked, run, sat at the desk, and lolled about on a beanbag in them and they have remained comfortable throughout.

2. My tailoring tutor and two of the other students examined the fit and pronounced it good.

Next up is the lovely stretch denim I've been saving for just the right jeans. But it will have to wait until I get my sewing machine back. Its been in the shop for almost a week now, and won't be back until after the weekend as the engineer needs to consult with someone who is on holiday and won't be back until Monday. I'm missing her. My back up machine is not in the same league and I am not going to do any work on my jacket on the old machine, so I am kind of stuck. The old machine also top stitches abysmally, so no jeans either. An excellent excuse to get on with the immense pile of tracing and tissue alterations that are sat in my dining room waiting for my attention.

So here are pair two. These have purple top stitching, for which I used rayon embroidery thread and my three step straight stitch. I prefer that stitch for my top stitching as I find it less likely to come undone over time than the single stitch and jeans stitch thread. The previous pair were top stitched in variagated teal-y embroidery thread but I think that reel was cotton rather than rayon and it was a thicker gauge of thread.

Great looking jeans. Good news about the small amount of adjustments.

I looked at the fit of your jeans and immediately wrote down the pattern number. I've seen you struggle with very similar fit problems to my own. With these looking so good on you, I'm hopeful I can achieve the same results. Thanks for encouraging me.

By George I think she's got it! That patterns seems to come up trumps for everyone. Great they are so comfortable - especially with the lolling, you need good lolling jeans ;-)

I am seriously impressed with your topstitching. It's perfect! And with the bold colours you couldn't afford to go wrong.

Sorry to hear your machine is in the hospital, hope it gets better soon.

Cheers,
AJ

Fabulous! I love the purple topstitching, so chic and designer. Your fit is impeccable!
I like denim with as little stretch as possible, but it is suprisingly hard to find anything here in the states less than 3%. I really prefer 2% stretch, it still has some give but it looks fresh at the end of the day instead of bagging at the seat and knees.
