At the tailoring course last week I began work on the flaps for my in seam pockets and part of my homework was to complete the flaps ready to install them into the jacket, together with the pocket bags, next week.

I had quite a lot of work to do on the jacket this week but the lack of my main sewing machine, plus a heavy cold (mercifully the latter is receding now), has meant I've not actually got on with it. It is looking like my back up machine will end up being used for the jacket after all. I don't wish to go into the details (I am annoyed and its not polite to rant) but its likely my lovely main machine may be away for a little while since it may need to be returned to Bernina. I should know more later in the week as to whether it will have to go back or not.
I did, however, begin work on the lining, which I had cut out at the last class session, as well as completing the two flaps for the pockets. I did both on the old machine and it didn't behave as badly as it had when I used it on the denim so maybe it just disliked the jeans for some reason.
The pocket flaps are backed with lining fabric and I chose to have a striped area from the lining on the pocket flaps as you can see. I also will need to apply a little bit of the lining fabric to the top of the pocket bag so that it shows as a flash of print when I put my hand in my pocket. I am hoping I will be able to do this so that a flower is coming out of each pocket bag, however, the scale of the print may make this difficult to achieve, as you can see from the photo of the lining below. In which case, I shall go for more stripes.
So two pocket flaps, and a bit of the lining. Not an immense amount of progress really.
This week I need to finish the lining, cut the facings and attach those, sew the belt to the jacket, sew up the jacket shoulder seams, attach the peplum leaving room for the pockets, sew the pocket bags, and tack the front canvases into the jacket.

I'm saying prayers for your Bernina. I love mine, which is now 20+- years old. But I've heard some horror stories. When a Bernina is a lemon, well you never know what it's going to cost you. Hope all goes well.
In the meantime, love the pocket flaps. You are doing a really good job on them!
Very nice pocket flaps love the stripey lining
