Shawl for Julia

It was pointed out to me the other day that I had failed to include one of my hand made gifts in the round up of gifts post.  I must admit, I searched for the photos for a while without success until this morning when I realised that my habitual laziness would be my friend.  I never remember to clear out the photos on my camera's storage card, and lo and behold, I found the photos of the item.

So here it is, the shawl for Julia, which according to my Ravelry page, I knit in the summer.  Which would figure as the photos actually show the shawl out in the garden, there are leaves, and sunshine, and there is no rain.  That in itself was nice to see today even if only in a photo.

The pattern is Hearts Half Circle by Mwaaknits.  Its one of three half circle shawls (and their companion circular shawls) which she created in honour of Elizabeth Zimmerman, who created the Pi shawl.  Well this one is a half Pi I guess, but the principle is the same.  Looks complicated, but  I found this one quite simple to knit.  Its made in Colourmart Laceweight.  One of the scrap sets I bought in 2011.  This shawl used one strand of raisin, one strand of burgundy and one strand of a dark navyish purple.  Its not photographed true to colour at all.  The blocked photo is too dark, and the sunlight photos are too purple.  Trying to wind this laceweight into balls and then wind it together, took about five days and a lot of cursing.  I made what I thought was sufficient but in fact had enough to almost make a second one, and still haven't made much of a dent in the scrap pack.  So there will be further lace shawls from the pack in due course.
