Socks and a sweater

These three projects, plus the two items I posted yesterday, pretty much comprise my last six months of knitting output. I do have two projects currently on the needles, but that is a tale for another day.

The sweater forms part of my Stitchers Guild SWAP and is knit in Stylecraft luxury merino colourway Damask. The purple socks were an experiment. I woke up one morning and wondered if I had the skills to make a sock. I took my only set of DPN's and some purple acrylic aran yarn left from a previous project, and set off making socks... not actually expecting to be able to finish but I followed the instructions from Silver's sock class written by Kristin Bellehumeur http://www.cometosilver.com/ and they are awesome instructions. I followed them slavishly, and found I absolutely loved the whole process of sock knitting and learned new skills and gained confidence that transferred to the rest of my knitting. The first purple pair aren't that great a fit, but they are wonderfully warm for wandering around the house in. I enjoyed making them so much that I ordered a set of different sized sock needles (Knitpicks, the wooden ones in the pretty colours) and some gorgeous stripy wool, from The Yorkshire Wool Lady on E-Bay, and cast on the blue pair within a week of finishing the purple ones. I don't think I could have done these socks successfully without Kristin's super helpful class though. Thanks Kristin.
