Marfy Patterns

After a great deal of deliberation, and more lists of possible options than I could really admit to without embarrassment, I have finally sent off for my Marfy pattern order from the 2009 catalogue. I am a bit of a Marfy junkie and the highlight of my year is the arrival of my new catalogue, which then sits in the dining room for weeks with bits of paper stuck in it whilst I go through the catalogue several times a week trying to decide which pattern I have to have and which I can manage without.

This year, I have ordered five patterns, and not a jacket amongst them, since I still haven't made up the three jacket patterns I bought last year. I've got the fabric for the jackets, but somehow, they haven't got made. But they will. This is going to be the year of the Marfy and I am going to make those jackets to go with all these lovely skirts and tops I have just ordered.

So, for your delectation, here are my picks for this year. First up, a rather simple looking jersey top. I ummed and ahhed about this for days, since theoretically, I could draft that self same neckline that so appealed to me. But in the end, decided I would probably spend hours and several muslins getting it right.

Then there are three skirts. The skirt shown in orange has such interesting lines and I can see this in lightweight denim or in a wool for work. It has a zipper up the front and zippered pockets at the sides which if I could get coloured zippers could make a very interesting design feature. I can see this in black lightweight denim with multicolour zippers and multicolour topstitching.

For the flippy, spotty skirt, I have some tencel which I think would work well, though I can see this in several possible fabrics. I love the way it is fitted but there is enough room to stride out a bit thanks to the flippy hem. Even though it really does look like a summer skirt, I am hoping to make it up in a lightweight wool suiting for autumn winter as well.

The final photograph shows an orange blouse and purple skirt. I've ordered both. I have never worn this skirt style before so it will be a bit of an experiment for me, stylewise. The blouse is very elegant and I would probably take up their suggestion of putting the embroidery on the front. The sleeves are quite full which will also be a new thing for me.

I only ordered them today, but they are going airmail... . wonder how long I should wait before I start lying in wait to ambush the postman?

Hopefully there will be photos later in the week of my latest Marfy project, one of the free skirts from the current catalogue, which has a pleated inset at each side of the hem.
