Marfy 1985

As promised, here is a photo of my latest Marfy project, one of the free patterns from the 2009 catalogue. I am really pleased with the skirt though less so with the photos. Being dark grey, it wasn't easy to get a reasonable picture of it.
The skirt wasn't too difficult to construct, although the pleated sections were decidedly time consuming. I will review it on Pattern Review sometime today for anyone interested in knowing more about the construction.
The skirt was the final piece in my entry into the Stitchers Guild SWAP. For those that don't know, SWAP is Sewing With A Plan, and basically entails the creation of a set of garments which all work together to make a coherent whole. The basic requirement this year was one jacket, four bottoms and six tops. My jacket was the Coat of Doom and then I have two pairs of trousers, one more skirt, which is actually a Frankenskirt, made from two thirds of this skirt and one third of a different Marfy skirt. The tops consist of two blouses, one hand knit sweater, and three knit tops. I just need some decent weather and sunshine so I can take the various photos required for my entry and I will be done.
Eventually, I will be making a few more items to coordinate with the various SWAP items, probably a jacket and some more tops, but for now, I am starting a Marfy jacket, number 1756, a free pattern from the 2008 catalogue, which I am hoping to have finished to wear to a wedding in May. The muslin has been hanging about in the sewing room for months and I got it out last night and with a bit of help from my mum, I think I've sorted the fit. All it seemed to need was a change to the armhole shape and rotation of the sleeve in the armhole. This does assume that I haven't already done something to the muslin that I forgot about, but it didn't look as though I had. The pattern is a relatively simple one, chosen so I could work out my fit for Marfy jackets before I went on to try to construct the three patterns I bought last year which are much more complex with lots and lots of pieces.
