A Monkey A Month for 2014

Regular readers will know of my love for the patterns of VeryBusyMonkey and I now have so many that they need their own folder to live in.  :)  I also have a rather large stash of sock yarn, a stash that is starting to grow beyond the confines of its box, which tells me that I need to knit some up so I can buy more pretty yarns.  :)

So, this year's challenge is to knit at least one Verybusymonkey pattern every month.  If I can, I will match my own personal challenge with an entry or two in the regular knitalongs held in the designer's group on Ravelry.  And ideally I'd like to achieve fourteen patterns in 2014 but with other things that need doing this may not be possible.

The new knitalong, starting today and running for three months, is to knit any of the patterns that have both a sock and shawl pattern which share the same stitch pattern.  I was thrilled to find that the socks I've wanted to knit for months and months, the Paragon Socks, will be admissable.  So that will be my January challenge item.  I don't have the matching shawl pattern (yet..) so February and March, subject to confirmation cos I often change my mind, may be the Solar Flare Shawl and its matching socks, called Cadence.  I've made Cadence before, in bright green, and the pattern is lovely to knit, and the socks fit well and are one of my fave pairs.  I happen to have two skeins of almost identical yarns which I dyed; one is silk and merino, the other wool and nylon, so they will be the shawl and socks respectively.  I've been keen to knit a matching socks and shawl set for a while so I was really pleased with the knitalong choice this time around.

So that those of you who aren't on Ravelry can have a look at what the fuss is about, here is a link to the designer's website.  http://verybusymonkey.wordpress.com/

I am hoping to cast the socks on later today.  That will be my reward for cleaning the house, dismantling the christmas tree and dealing with an immense pile of laundry.  :)   - Updated to show the cast on photo for the Paragon socks.  :)

Wow, so ambitious! I would say its time to start creating when the stash outgrows its boundaries!
