Changes are afoot

I had such good intentions of sewing up the two tops I cut out last week.  However, my workplace had other ideas and all this week I've come in from work very late, eaten, done the chores and gone to bed.  I can't see the work situation changing for the next three weeks as I am currently preparing a handover of my role, plus carrying out my own role, and being nominally in charge of the department.  This means juggling a lot of work, some of it unfamiliar, and taking on a lot more responsibility.

I was notified of redundancy last October.  Of course I began applying for jobs as soon as I was notified and, encouraged by a friend, applied for a role that would be a huge change for me as well as a fabulous opportunity.  I was offered this role the same week as my current employer asked me to stay on with them.  I was torn between what I wanted to do and what I thought I ought to do and that made for a very difficult decision.  I chose the new role and it will be very challenging for me for few months I think.   I'm moving from an office based role to a mainly home based role, and from walking to work to having to travel considerable distances on business reasonably regularly.  I 've changed sectors and will have to get to grips with new technology too.  Its going to be a lot of change at once, and one of the biggest challenges I've ever set myself.  Its the right thing for me personally and professionally though and I know I made the right decision but change is to a  varying degree,  difficult for most people and I'm trying to stay positive about it.

I need to examine all sorts of things in my life  including my wardrobe, and the challenges and opportunities of working from home.

In terms of the wardrobe, I am initially going to try starting the day in jeans (dog walking) then changing for work when I get in, dressing as I would for going to the office and putting up my hair.  Then at the end of the day, getting back into the jeans so that I have marked the end of my work day physically.  I am hoping that this will make me feel focused and professional during working hours.
At home I can wear any of the things I would normally wear to my current office.  I have some outfits that are crush proof that will hopefully work for travel, including the new Hobbs dress, two boiled wool jackets, two skirts and three pairs of trousers, so I should be able to create a travel capsule that will work from existing items, always assuming the dress code is similar to that at my current workplace.

I'm not sure about whether make up is strictly necessary to the overall "business" look when working from home;  I would wear it if I was going to the office though.

I still need to decide on footwear for home and travel.  I think I should wear heels when working as that is what I would have worn in the office. I would want to drive in flat shoes but I'm considering leaving a pair of heels in the car at all times.   I had a disaster when I went to second interview.  I forgot to put my high heeled, black boots into the car with me, and was 200 miles down the motorway before I realised.  I had to attend my interview in a tailored black suit, sheer tights, full makeup... and brown suede, fur lined, flat, lace up walking boots.

Congratulations! It sounds like a challenge that you are really looking forward to!
I like your wardrobe plan. I keep my heels in the car and just drive in bare feet, but its a bit warmer here. How often will you have to commute the 200 miles?

I will have to admit, I don't like working from home because my sewing stuff is so distracting.
