Living room plan

Hmm.  The living room plan isn't quite as well formed at the bedroom plan was, but I do have a germ of an idea.
I have an existing sofa and its a squashy, cottagey one with feather cushions but its only a two seater as I bought it when I had a very small house.  I don't have any other seating in the living room, except a rather elderly, much re-covered, beanbag, which the dog has rather commandeered as hers.  I'm rather a fan of beanbags despite their being less than fashionable and plan to cover the beanbag, and perhaps add to its filling, when I start on the living room plan.

I really did want a larger sofa, but can't bear to part with the one I have.  I can't actually fit two small sofas into the room, and still move about easily.   I really wanted something I could lie almost flat out on, and the current sofa is about six inches too short for that.  Nothing fit the room until my trip to Ikea which yielded this lovely chair.
It is a very similar shape and style to my existing sofa though has polyfilled cushions rather than feathers.  My current sofa has plain navy blue textured loose covers so this cover style would work well with that.  The chair has a matching footstool/pouffe thingy which makes the chair long enough to lie about on and is quite wide.  I very rarely sit on furniture neatly with my feet on the ground like you are supposed to and this chair is wide enough to allow me to curl my legs under me.  The arms are low enough and the width large enough, to allow knitting or sewing to be easily accomplished, and if I were to put my feet on the footstool, the dog would just about fit in the chair with me.  Additionally, the footstool has a lift off top, with storage in the base... just the thing for keeping the knitting under control and out of the way.  I think that this will give the most flexible seating for the room size as the footstool can be put somewhere else when not needed, or pressed into service as extra seating if necessary.

The longer term plan is to make loose covers and curtains throughout, and buy a new carpet.  But that's a much larger investment than I want to make currently so there are now two living room plans.  Tranche one, involves this chair and footstool being purchased and a dramatic colour scheme.  The curtains, which are cream, and the carpet, which is sort of brownish, will remain during tranche one and will be largely ignored in the hope they will sort of go away or at least be unnoticed.  The planned wall colour scheme is mainly white or very pale cream walls with an accent wall in a very dark blue.  I haven't decided which wall will be the accent yet.    On the accent wall will be pictures in frames and I am going to paint the frames turquoise and teal  Then I want teal and turquoise cushions and glass accessories.

Tranche two is for sometime in the future and is currently unplanned.  Though I suspect it might involve fourteen coats of cheap white emulsion to cover the very dark blue accent wall that seemed such a fabulous plan in 2013.  :)

:-) sounds like great fun. As I've been renting I leave the carpet and curtains and change the pictures and cushions. In my new house I want a sofa bed that is comfortable enough as both a sofa and a bed and doesn't break the bank, in the hope that it might encourage guests!

Tranche one of my living room makeover involves putting away enough stuff to be able to see the surfaces of the tables (note plural). Since most of it is either knitting, embroidery or books about same, I have to work my way out of the mess.

suggestion - navy wallpaper, it's easier to remove.

nice chair!
