Lifting radio silence

Its been over a month since I wrote the blog. I haven't been totally inactive, but have been trying to finish my College work. I have done quite a large chunk of it and should have a better idea this week about what else needs to be done to ensure the course work passes muster with the verifiers.

In between the essays, I have three knitting projects on the go. Knitting being easier to pick up and put down than sewing. I have the May socks, which are going to run well into June since I only finished the first sock today. There is a bulky cardigan, which I have got about 60% done, and a shawlette in Posh Yarn Foibles colourway which is not very far on at all.

Some weeks ago, I got a lovely turquoise cotton remnant and cut out a summer jacket. Only once I had squeezed the whole jacket out of the fabric, leaving a scant handful of scraps, and pinned the pieces together to admire it on the dress form, I found to my horror that the pattern hadn't been properly altered and was too short in the body. The waist band was half way up my back.. and I had no extra fabric left and had to throw the entire thing away. I was not a happy rabbit I can tell you.

Last weekend, I popped into the fabric shop I'd got the remnant from, with no hope of success, brandishing a bit of the original fabric and hoping there might be a different colour of the cotton available. The owner had a dig around downstairs and found a large remnant of a cotton, about two shades lighter than the original and with no stretch. Its not quite the same quality, but its still turquoise and I was thrilled. I cut the, carefully altered, jacket from that fabric today.... was on a roll and finally sewing.... then found I had no interfacing. So I've come to a halt again. But at least I've started a sewing project.

Hopefully there will be more news, and some photos, later in the week... college essays permitting.

Good to hear from you and agree that knitting is easier to pick up.

Pity about the jacket being too short and no interfacing for the new one, how frustrating.

dead slow and stop apart from knitting. Yes, I have some familiarity with that!

Hope college is over soon and you get back to the important stuff ;-)
