Marfy 1444 Mark Two completed

The jacket is completed, and here it is. Apologies for the appalling quality of the photos I took of myself in the jacket. I have real problems getting photos of any quality on the timer but many people prefer to see things on the intended wearer, and hopefully this gives a good enough view. I've included the photos taken on Twiggy the Dressform, as they really give a much better view of the garment.
I will be entering this jacket into the One Fabric – Wool contest today, a bit later than I had planned, thanks to having a cold which robbed me of breath and concentration and made sewing difficult in the early part of the week.

I think I like this one more than the previous version. The fabric was much more obedient and the subtle stripe allowed me to cut the front strip on the cross grain to get a different orientation of the pattern. The actual pattern drawing shows the jacket in a window pane check, with the front strip panel on the bias. I would like to try this, but would need to take the pattern piece for the strip panel with me to check the scale of the check. I think it would look bad if the whole of a check did not fit on the piece. But that will be for another year, as I don’t think I need more than two of this style in the wardrobe at one time. The jacket feels much better on me than the previous one did, though of course its real comfort test will come on Monday when I wear it to work.

The fabric was a gift from RuthieK, (thanks again Ruthie). The fabric came originally from Laura Ashley. I have enough left over to make a skirt to match the jacket and am considering which pattern would be best for the fabric. Initially I was keen to do the 12 panel Marfy flippy skirt, but Ruth and I were unsure whether the fabric would drape well enough for the pattern. So the current front runner is a straight skirt with a flounce at the hem. This will form part of my SWAP on Stitchers Guild and I have yet to decide whether the jacket will go in as a “pre-sewn item” or whether I will submit the jacket I make in my tailoring course.

Oh it is beautiful, and so much better you having it than mouldering in my overstuffed cupboard. I am so happy to see how it came out.

Congrats!! I'm so glad you triumphed over that pattern. It looks great.

Sorry about your cold. Sewing with a stuffed up head is not easy, I know! Onward and upward. Can't wait to see what comes next!?
