We are having a bit of a heatwave here... its actually warm enough for me to go out without a cardigan today.... and what have I been sewing???? Black boiled wool!!! I must be mad. Only shots on Twiggy for this one as its waayyy to hot to model this one on me. :)
I've made this pattern up before, in red, and I wore it literally to pieces and again in grey tweed without the collar, which was not as much of a success because it was grey, boring, and had no collar. When cutting out the recent European Knit jacket, I found I had enough of the boiled wool for two jackets, it made sense to cut one of these out at the same time. This one has languished a bit despite my best intentions, but I've finally got tired of moving the bits about the sewing room, and sewed it up.
As its not lined, and its boiled wool, so doesn't fray, it was actually really quick to sew. I guess it took about five or six hours in total, including the hand sewing which was required for hems, catching the facings down, and finishing the seam at the centre back neck on the frill as it can be seen from both sides of the garment.
Super easy pattern, which I made even easier by dispensing with the fake pocket flaps, vents in the sleeves and back, and little back belt. And of course no lining and no requirement for interfacing except behind the button holes. The collar, compared to my usual notched kind, was a piece of cake to sew, which helped the whole "relaxed sewing experience" thing to happen.
All the seams are finished with pinking on the inside rather than serged or french seamed. I didn't do the fake run and fell seams on this one as I now have three boiled wool jackets with that detail, and fancied a change.
Buttons are recycled from a previous jacket. I have a sneaky feeling they actually came off the grey tweed version of this pattern actually.
So here we have my "jacket in a day.... more or less".

Beautiful! Its so nice to have such a reliable jacket pattern. I like it with the collar and grey is one of those colors that is good in theory but very unexciting in reality.
Oh very nice. That looks fantastic. You need a purple one too perhaps????
