And the saga continues

As if the DIY disasters thus far had not been sufficient, the wallpaper took two days to dry and thus could only be painted last night. The wallpaper ate the paint at an alarming rate (its that anaglypta stuff with the raised pattern on it, very nice but evidently rather thirsty). So this cupboard measures 80cm by 150cm floor space. Its not got a super high ceiling, just a normal one. Its small enough that two people stood in the cupboard at once need to know each other very well. So how come this took more than three quarters of a tin of paint? As it turned out, I had less than three quarters of a tin of paint... so it ran out with only a 50cm x 75cm section still to paint... and this after I'd watered down the paint so much that it was running down my arms/the wall/the brush. Not being inclined to buy a second tin of paint, I now have a cupboard with three pale vanilla walls, and one white one. Its sort of OK. Its going to have to be. If I have to spend any more time in that cupboard, or any more money on it, I will scream.

Next on the list, a trip to Ikea. Officially to purchase storage solutions, but its almost impossible not to come back without things not related to storage... sofa throws that might make nice cardigans and a set of slightly scratchy bedlinen found their way to my house last time.

I do love the whole idea, which Ikea sell so well, that you can go there, get storage solutions, and your home will be transformed into a relaxing environment in which all clutter is tidied away and any craft related activities are tidily stowed in lovely sea grass baskets with one or two artfully trailing yarns falling from them. I also love that the catalogue often shows animals and people enjoying the lovely tidy rooms. The dogs lie neatly on floors and beanbags looking intelligently inquisitive throughout the catalogue.

Its such a hopeful place and I always come back from there filled with a desire to be tidy. I vow to tidy away stuff when I've finished with it, into its new, smart storage receptacle and will thus be able to find things when I need them. Since I go to Ikea about once a year on a search for additional, more efficient storage receptacles, I believe you can draw your own conclusions on the likely success of my aim to corral all domestic clutter into a newly painted cupboard. And also some reasonably accurate conclusions regarding my tendency to stash things.

Glad the darn cupboard is now actually painted. Lately I've been buying good quality used furniture from a local shop rather than going to Ikea, as I think their quality has gone down a little bit. However I recently got an Ikea gift voucher as a belated housewarming gift so will get the opportunity to go again at some point. Hope your trip is successful.

if you tidy stuff away, you can't see it, if you can't see it, you'll forget to work on it, if you don't work on it a tribe of UFOs will take over your house. Tidying is bad for you.

When the Home Decor Police turn up at yours, I'm sure you'll get fined for having 1 white wall in your vanilla cupboard. Shocked and appalled so I am.
