Marfy 1987

The brown linen jacket is finished at last. I have been somewhat slowed down by the lack of my good machine, which is still away for servicing. My back up machine just isn't in the same league and can't do top stitching or buttonholes as nicely as I would like, so I've been borrowing mum's machine when its been convenient to do so.

And here is the finished item. I am pretty pleased with how it came out though can't decide if it needs a tad more room across the back. I had been going to cut a second version out in wool melton, but will wait a bit now to see how the jacket feels when I've worn it a couple of times.

The fit is not as close as I normally wear, but I think its supposed to be that way. I need to tweak the pockets to make them a touch larger, but that's a rather minor issue. Please excuse the black jeans worn with the jacket. I know they don't really work well with the jacket colour, but I don't really have anything that goes with the jacket yet. I have some sand colour twill to make some jeans to wear with the jacket but haven't started them yet because I really need my good machine when I am making jeans.

And here is a close up of the buttons. I was really pleased with the way these worked on the jacket.

Next up is Marfy 1908, which I am making in pale non-stretch denim to get the hang of the pattern before I try tackling it in wool for winter. Its another pattern that has zip pockets set into a seam. I've cut it out and serged all the edges, and am currently searching for three zips the right colour and length (and despite a large and ever growing zip stash, failing miserably).

very nice indeed, lovely job on the brown jacket.

What colour and length would be right for your skirt zips?

Yes, just make yer own jeans. It's only the lack of the right machine that's stopping me!?!? I do envy you having a jeans pattern - and the skills etc to achieve the results.

Sounds like that will make a great outfit!

Cheers,
AJ

Very well done jacket. I really like the brown linen - maybe I need to look for some (:

Jenni, that's come out so well. I really like the variegated top stitching the skimming (but not over fitted) silhouette and the elegant buttons. A lovely jacket and a great way to interpret your tailored work style for a more casual look.

Very nice jacket! I have that pattern too, and it's so nice to see it made up. I haven't gotten to it yet, but it seems I should move it up the list.
