I have to admit, the 2010 catalogue didn't thrill me as much as I had expected it to. It didn't quite live up to the hype I had given it in my head. I do like quite a few things, but not as many as I usually do, and quite a few of the items I liked weren't suited to my lifestyle so whilst I would enjoy the challenge of constructing them, I couldn't see me wearing them much. So, I only picked two patterns from this year's catalogue.
First of all, coat 2264, pictured in blue. This is the perfect coat for the black wool I was given for Christmas. I love the belt, the cute tabs, the fur trimmed hood. Its not too fitted at the upper back, but yet can be cinched in with the belt to give the figure shape. The hood is both practical and attractive, and I am rather keen on lining the whole hood with fur. Would it be impractical to have a fur lined and trimmed hood? Is that a bit much? I do tend to go a bit overboard. Anyway, I've time to think about that as I want to make the coat on another tailoring course. I am waiting to hear when the late summer course will start.
And then there is pattern 2248, which Marfy describe as a cape with a shawl collar. Apparently there is a little cap sleeve under that huge collar, but its basically a sleeveless jacket of immense and delightful beauty. As it is shown over a thick sweater, this is how I will be wearing mine. I love the cosiness of the giant collar and if I can work out how, I am keen to see if I can draft a sleeve so that I can make it even more versatile. I have been on the lookout for the right fabric for this pattern since the day I got the catalogue, and today, when I visited the fabric shop to attend my final tailoring class, there it was. A short bolt of the most divine, the most gorgeous, the most buttery soft and fluffy and furry and scrumptiously coloured fabric. A fabric so utterly divine that I said I had to have it even though it had no price label on it yet. That bolt, which contains 2.6 metres of mohair fabulousness, is now in the basement of the shop waiting for me to get paid so I can go and collect it and convey it home. In each break during my tailoring class, I went and petted it. And checked it still had my name pinned to it. And then, because I had the camera with me to take photos for my tailoring notes, I sneaked away and photographed the fabulousness so I could share it with you all... it isn't the greatest shot of it. I promise it is way more lovely than this photo shows. And Ruth, in light of our discussion about me needing to add colour to my wardrobe... does this have enough colour??? :)

Looks fabulous! The colors will look great on you, and it looks to feel absolutely yummy.
You really didn't find any summer patterns? I was thinking of placing another order. Some of the cut ones are on the Vogue website now.
