Like buses...

None for ages, then three come along at once. And so it is with my blog.

I had a very enjoyable weekend as RuthieK http://ruthieksews1.blogspot.com/ came to visit for the weekend. Poor Ruth was at the mercy of her Blackberry as work was super busy but we managed to find time to have a marvellous root around at Bond's haberdashers in Leeds. Indeed, we spent so long in there that one saleslady commented on our stamina as we rooted about in boxes of buttons, zippers and trim for three hours or more. I came out with what I needed plus a few little extras. Some very cute purple buttons, and even cuter navy, white and red buttons (which will probably go on a pair of navy linen trousers, see previous post of Marfy pattern with buttoned closure). I got three open ended zips, one for a cardigan I am knitting, one for the hoodie I cut out last week, and one just for good luck. I won't say how many zips Ruth got, and she refused to count how many buttons, but she had a healthy number of each. Since the zips were the princely sum of 20p each, we did go a bit mad in that area. The zips were in three huge boxes piled high and we managed to mine a seam of invisible zips in many colours using my normal method of dig to the very bottom, and drag everything to the top.

After that we went out for lunch before returning home in time to visit my local fabric shop where Ruth found a rather fine knit fabric which insisted on following her home.
Saturday evening was spent cutting out a jacket muslin for Ruth and Sunday morning we constructed and altered it, before she had to return home as work was calling.

It was such fun to meet up and we had a really good laugh. I feel so lucky to have a sewing friend who can visit with me. I know so many people don't have that luxury.

Sewing friends are the BEST! Everybody should have one, but only a lucky few of us do.
