My best friend's daughter is expecting her fifth child this year, and knows she is having another boy. She saw some really cute little vests on line that had ties, sunglasses, guitars and braces appliqued on them.

She has got pretty much every type of garment for children, in every size, in pretty much every colour and for both genders, a huge collection of baby socks and hats I've made for previous babes, and my friend is a demon knitter and has provided cardigans and sweaters in every colour, size and style. All can be handed down, as previous items have been. So the choice of what to do for this baby was tough until I heard about these little vests. If there is one thing I am not short of, its quilting cottons in every colour known to woman so it seemed a good idea to try to reproduce the garment she'd seen, as a birth gift for the new baby. I found lots of these little tie templates on line in various places and they were quite easy to do. I put them on with Bondaweb then sewed around them by hand as this will be softer for the baby and will give more as the little vests as rather stretchy.

Hopefully she will like them. I also have a darling little duck applique that I am thinking about putting on the back of a little fleece or denim coat but I'd make that a bit bigger as the baby is due in May so perhaps a nine - twelve month size because it won't really need a coat until the colder weather (and the duck applique is a bit bigger and won't fit on a teeny tiny baby coat).
