Geology Shawlette

This was a knitalong on Ravelry and it took me ages to complete it.  I did about half of it then it sat on the coffee table for weeks and weeks, abandoned in favour of sewing, housework, gardening and work.  Not necessarily in that order.

Anyway, I managed to tear myself away from sewing during the evenings this week (mainly because I have had one of those weeks where things went wrong) and finished the shawlette a couple of days ago, blocking it yesterday.

The yarn is Posh Yarn Pamela in colourway Lap of the Gods.  A reddish brown with sparkle in (5% stellina fibre to be precise).  I'm reasonably pleased with it, though there are a couple of Chardonnay fuelled errors in the fourth and fifth layers.   I doubt anyone will be examining my shawlette that closely and I am happy enough with it not to want to pull it out and redo it.

Sewing this week has been happening, but there isn't anything particularly nice to show you.  I made a fabulous Marfy blouse up, the first time I'd used this pattern.  I thought it was fitting OK though it wouldn't sit on the dressform too neatly (which should have been my first clue).  When I tried it on myself for the first time since I'd put in the sleeves.... it didn't fit properly.  Of course it had been made in "real" fabric not calico.  I've had an initial try to alter the pattern but I'm not sure how to do it, so its in time out temporarily.  The neckline, shoulders and sleeve are a mess... but the rest of the blouse fits spot on, so I will alter the pattern once I can work out what needs doing and how to do it.

Today I finished the muslin for the Vogue wrap dress....  Currently being worn by the dress form, it has not impressed me.  Quite the reverse.   I do dislike the fabric colour, and it is quite a thick knit... but even so, I don't know that its quite my style really.  Its sat on the dress form in time out as I type this and I shall consider its merits later in the weekend when it and I have had some distance from each other.  However, I will say that in common with all Vogue's I've ever made, its armholes and my arms were not made to fit together.   I've had to take the woven lining out because I nearly cut my arm off when I tried to move in it.  No way could I ever make the pattern in a woven without totally redrafting that armhole.  Its OK in a knit though as that's forgiving enough.  It may also be a touch too narrow in the back and a touch too short at centre back too.  But both those issues may disappear in a thinner and more drapey knit.

No pictures of either item because projects in time out don't deserve any publicity!!!

Coming next:  Marfy 088 with sleeves... hopefully it will work and break my run of near misses.

I love the comment you made that projects in time out deserve no publicity!

But you have such a gorgeous shawl!
Some things just need to stew, and others are just a learning experience.
just keep sewing!
